Tool 11

Some of the tools that I really like and can see using in the classroom are google docs.   I could type up weekly exit tickets, quizzes or questions of the days for the students to respond to weekly. I could also use edmodo to do this.   I also like the tools where the students can create animation, comics or videos to demonstrate to the class what they have learned. There are also many apps to download for the students to use in centers. 
Technology before was just something I had to do.  Now I know that it can be used daily to teach learning objectives.  This will enable the students to be more independent learners.  I really need to start thinking about the procedures that will be put into place for technology to be a daily thing in the classroom.

There is vast information availabe on the internet and we have to make sure that the students are using it for what is intended for our objectives. 
Students need to know that they should check more than one site for information they are looking for.
Anything they put on the internet is public access and can come back to hurt them. Make sure that students think about what they are writing or commenting on.  Even a comment can hurt or make someones day.
Cyber bullying is occuring all the time. I plan to discuss this with the students and emphazize how important it is for them to report any activity that they know of.
Instead of listing a specific website I could show the students how I found the page using google.  Modeling is important to teach the students what we expect from them.
Parents can recieve a list of the sites the students are using and browse through them if they would like.
* I viewed Vicki Davis' blog and Wes Fryer's blog.  Many of these points about digital citenzenshipcould be shared with the students.  Main points could be posted around the room and referred to during the year.

*You should always start with the objective in mind when considering technology to use in the classroom.  You don't want to use technology just to say you did. 
*Students need to be held accountable to make sure that they are mastering the objectives taught using the devices.  Just by completing the activity does not mean they understand.
*The two interactive websites I looked at were games for kids.com.  The students can play a variety of math games here. The next one is thinkfinity.  It has an interactive lesson for the students to do and then an activity to complete after they do the lesson.  This would be good for the accountability piece.
* A factor tree is one app we could use in the 6th grade classroom.  The students use lcm and gcf to build factor trees.  Animation creator lite lets the students create comics.  This would be a good way for students to demonstrate an objective they have learned.
* We discussed having one student take detailed notes of what was learned in the class that day.  You could designate a note taker for the day and the ipad has a place for notes to be taken.  They could post these on edmodo for students to go back and refer to .

Tool 8

The devices we are getting could be used in centers/tutorials.  Students can create tutorials for students to view.  Educational games could be played on the devices also.  Students can also watch videos related to a specific objective.  They could write feedback on what they viewed and learned though a blog or through edmodo.  Students could also create videos for the class to view. 

Expectations need to be set up at the beginning of the year. 
Students could be assigned to devices at the beginning of the year and use that one only or somehow keep track of who is using each device.  Sign in sheet for each device or something.
Leave plenty of time at the end of each period for clean up and to account for all devices before the students leave.

* Implemented in the first nine-weeks
*Students will use edmodo.
*Students will create surveys in groups and post to edmodo.  Students from other classes would go on and answer the surveys.
*Students will then analyze the data and create a graph to display the results.

Tool 6

Give 2 reasons you would use the divisibility rules.

I used Todays meet to ask the students a question.  This would be good for a closing question at the end of the period or a week long assignment where the students could get on anytime during the week and answer the question.  The students could access the question through the teachers blog.

The students in 6th grade Math used edmodo to upload a project they did.  The students were able to view the students projects and make comments on them.

Tool 5

I used the stupeflix through google docs. It was very simple to create a video over music. You get one for free but after that you have to pay. It took me a while to figure out how to post the picture of it but I save it through publisher as a picture and then I was able to paste it on to the blog.

This was very easy to use. Wordle could be used to get the students attention. The students could also use it for vocabulary words or a closing at the end of the period.

Tool number 4

This tool was fairly easy. I created a document on divisibility. This could be a good way to have students do work from home. You could create the document here and if students loose it they could pull it up and do it on the computer or print it. This would also be a good way to have reflections on a classroom objective. You could post a question for the students to go in and respond. If you were going to share the document with your students it would be easier to create a group so that you don't have to type in all of the email addresses everytime. I created a form. This seems very similar to a document. I like the document better.

The first thing I did for this tool was to create a dropbox account on my home computer. This was very simple to do. Then I was trying to download the save you tube on my computer but for some reason this did not work. I then just used the embed key to save the videos on to my blog. I first searched teacher tube to find a math video. I then just did a google search for math 6th grade videos to find another video. For the copyright and fair use laws I learned that students should be crediting the sources they use.

I am finding this to take much more time than I expected, especially while trying to keep up with 2 little boys.  So I have been trying to find some interesting blogs to follow and let me say this is not easy for me.  I looked at what Calloway and Chio had found to give me a starting place and that helped.

http://www.teachingblogaddict.com  This blog had different blogs you could follow.  I liked Finding joy in the 6th grade.  The teacher had a good idea on classroom management that I may incorporate into the classsroom next year. I will visit this site again in the future.  One teacher blog that I happened upon was for her students.  She had videos and extra practice there.  Not sure if this is what I would want to do with a blog but it is an idea.

I made comments on the blogs but had a hard time finding blogs that I would even want to comment on.  If I had more time I am sure I could find something that interests me.  I found the advice on getting people to comment on your blog helpful.  Asking more questions on your posts would be a start.  I found it a little difficult to share my thoughts publicly because I didn't feel as though I always had something of value to say.  It is different than sharing ideas with your teammates because I was thinking a lot harder about what to say rather than just saying it.  I found my self typing a comment but then erasing it because I didn't think it sounded right.  I browsed through Landrum's staff blogs to see other peoples ideas and this has been helpful.  Look forward to seeing what blogs other teachers have found.

Just created a voki.  It reminded me of setting up a player on the wi.  I could have spent a lot more time trying to come up with the perfect voki.  It was very interesting.
